Basic facts about the island
Roatán is an island in the Caribbean, located about 65 kilometers off the northern coast of Honduras. With an area of 83 km2, it is the largest island in the Islas de la Bahía archipelago (Utila and Guanaja). The island lies near the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest coral reef in the world and the largest in the Caribbean. Roatán has a tropical climate with temperatures around 28 degrees, providing ideal conditions for swimming all year round. The sea temperature is also around 28°C, which means that the swimming season lasts almost all year round. Roatán is home to one of the five most beautiful beaches in the world – West Bay.
